About Barry Newman

Barry Newman, M.D., earned his medical degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine. After his surgical internship at New York Medical College, Metropolitan Hospital in New York, he completed his surgical residency at SUNY Stony Brook. His training in pediatric surgery was done at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo, in Buffalo, NY, and afterward he had a combined research fellowship in pediatric surgery and gastroenterology at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Newman is board certified by the American Board of Surgery with special competence in pediatric surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Surgeons, and of the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Newman has also worked extensively with the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics in lobbying efforts on a state and national level to improve access to care for uninsured children and those covered by Medicaid. Dr. Newman's clinical expertise includes neonatal surgery and congenital anomalies, with special expertise in pediatric laparoscopy and thoracoscopic surgery.

He also provides consultation, diagnosis and treatment of children with surgical problems including, but not limited to, head and neck masses, esophageal anomalies, noncardiac thoracic lesions, chest wall deformities, gastrointestinal problems, liver, biliary and pancreatic abnormalities, and all types of hernias. "Since having surgery is one of the greatest fears a child can experience, it is the aim of our pediatric surgical practice not only to provide the highest quality surgical care, but also to ensure that the emotional needs of both the child and the family are met" says Dr. Newman.
